Only the shortest of posts for me this week, given that Pappy is “wun hard act tu foller,“ as he might say.
I’m again posting a forum, in hopes of hearing what you think of in-world performance these days.
We now have more than 40K people online everyday. What is that doing to your SL visits? And what is working best, or not, in SL?
HoJo already followed up about my age-verification Q, and we can continue with that if you’d like. What will age verification do for your in-world experience?
Note to readers: Keep your comments family friendly. . .though on occasion I realize that we all cuss at our screens. . . ![]()

Kyo is correct: lag, or the slowing of commands in-world in SL, is one of the big problems. It keeps movement and other actions from happening, and Linden Lab tried to address this in the recent Town Hall, but I’m not sure how they can do so.
I wonder if the world of Second Life will be able to handle 50K or 100K people logged in at one time. Other “games” do that well, because they have pre-made worlds. Second Life, on the other hand, is being made and re-made constantly by residents.
It’s a different dynamic and that makes the tasks so much more complex, even for 3000 or so servers trying to keep the metaverse in action.
Yes.. The laggy lag in the Second Life is one of the things that you could swear at! Especially when it freezes up for 5 minutes before finally crashing!
Agg.. I don’t do all those dirty things like swearing, sex, drinking or smoking, but the frustrating-ness of the SL performance truly has tempted me to invoke acts of violence against the mersheen! o_O
