Cecil’s Gallery Opening!

Location: The Enclave Gallery in Allenvest

I put my new artsy black beret on my virtual bald head, slipped my leather jacket over my Devo T-Shirt, and teleported to see Cecil Hirvi’s and Lippy Korobase’s work on display at the gallery.  To find it in-world, search in the Map feature for Allenvest or try your luck at this direct link:

I can never get the darned things to work—perhaps they will for the reader who has Second Life installed and running.

Alas, I’d missed Cecil’s opening gala, replete with the obligatory “cheap wine” (according to Cecil, who also read some “Borg poems”).

Even though the opening buzz had subsided, I liked the work, because I love real-life art shows as well as those in SL.  Cecil’s work is as transgressive as Lippy’s is tranquil.  Lippy favors landscapes or seascapes, while Cecil’s work focuses on his Borg-ian violations of SL norms and the rules governing who can enter a region and what can or cannot be done.

The show will continue for at least another week. I like both artists’ work; Cecil sold five pieces during the opening—about 300L each—and I plan to purchase artwork now a building on UR’s Island.

And I’ve some Beatnik-style work I long to read at a virtual poetry reading in SL…stay tuned. You’ve inspired me, Uncle Cecil!

I’m always fishing for ideas as I plan to stage a photo exhibit with a Web back-end. I want visitors to be able to click a work to read essays and get multimedia materials when I do this, next year, for content created by my students.

SL provides such a clever and inexpensive way for artists to show work…some of it impossible to see in the real-world (3D walk-through sculpture best viewed when flying). And the arts patron can keep the good wine on his side of the screen!
