Iggy’s Note: The blog-ocalypse wiped out two months of posts here. I’m a lazy bum most times, and it gets worse during exam week! So I will re-run a few recent blogs now that survived in my backup files.
Tenchi’s most recent one is quite nice. And edgy. As she puts it:
Warning: This Post is written by a professional cynic and lover of sarcasm. Therefore I have to insist that you stop reading when either a German, an Austrian or Swiss and easily offended.
As Iggy pointed out earlier before SL is about wild creativity and borderless (ok nearly borderless imagination). Yet it seems, that quite a lot of people tend to be unable to grab this freedom and put it to use. Iggy and I had quite an interesting conversation on that fact earlier, during which I discovered that there is obviously a kind of stereotype which applies to being German in SL.
The parameters to create your avatar’s appearance are quite numerous but when you enter a German community you will notice that there is one typical female and one typical male type. How do they look? Well I will tell you. The females look like Russ Meyer style playmates preferably dressed in semi-transparent clothes while the male members of the species look like steroid-drenched copy of Sylvester Stallone after finishing City Cobra. I mean even though this might sound funny at first I ask myself why not use the full potential?
Now that we know how they look like the obvious question that arises is: how do they act? If you are a big fan of soap operas you will love the “German way” of SL. When looking into German communities in SL you will find out quite soon that its members have a tendency to stage social dramas which are so popular in common soap operas like taking away the best friend’s girlfriend, leaving your boyfriend for your boyfriend’s best friend, random acts of aggression, envy, and jealousy towards others. I always find it hard to believe that people actually have the nerve to spend their online time with activities like these.
Let me give you one small advice: Be yourself, be creative, be open-minded. When you take this into consideration it will be your best day in SL ever.

ehm ... no *G*
That’s one of the reasons why I started building in SL. Keeps the drama at bay.
And what’s happening especially in the German forums is unbelievable. Although I have to admit I have a look at it from time to time. It’s something I don’t want to see and at the same time can’t look away. You know what I mean, fellow catastrophy tourist? ![]()
