The recent discussions of Millennial students’ disinterest in Second Life have continued. They are reinforced by data from Wagner James Au that “only 16% of the user base is 24 or younger—a number that’s measurably declined over the last year.“
In addition to Au’s article, readers will find discussions by Feldspar Epstein (here in a follow-up article and her original article) and a well written and downbeat assesment by Prokofy (“you darn kids get off my fake grass!“) Neva on this topic.
Last night’s teaching round table at Montclair State University’s virtual campus took up this topic at length. Rather than rehash our discussion here, I’ll soon link to convener AJ Brooks’ transcript of this chat.
Next steps for teacher? Come to next week’s round table discussion of how to provide meaningful content for students. That’s one way to keep Millennials engaged in any sort of learning.
The round table will meet Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 3:30 pm SL time (that’s Pacific Time, folks). Click for a teleport to the Montclair campus. Come up the amphitheater steps and join us for this important discussion. It will run about one hour.
